Employee Benefits

 

HEALTH INSURANCE

Full-time permanent employees are eligible for health insurance coverage on the first of the month following 30 days of full-time permanent employment.  Employee coverage is provided at no cost to the employee.  Dependent coverage is available and is partially covered by the city.  The balance must be paid by the employee.  Payment for dependent coverage is done through payroll deduction and may be done on a pre-tax basis.  The City is currently offering HMO and PPO coverage (PPO at additional expense to the employee) which is reviewed and renewed on an annual basis.  If you elect pre-tax deduction status, changes to your coverage can only be done at renewal time each year (January 1) or when you have a family status change.  Changes in coverage due to a family status change must be done within 30 days of the qualifying event.  The City is currently insured by BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF TEXAS.  Their member services phone number is 877-299-2377.  You can access their web site at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.

  

DENTAL INSURANCE

Full-time permanent employees are eligible for dental insurance coverage on the first day of the month following 30 days of full-time permanent employment.  The City is currently offering a choice of DMO or PPO dental coverage.  DMO coverage for the employee is provided by the City at no cost to the employee and requires that you choose a dentist in the provider network.  PPO coverage, which allows you to see any dentist that accepts our insurance, is available at additional expense to the employee.  Payment for PPO and/or dependent coverage may be done through payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis.  If you elect pre-tax status, changes to your coverage can only be done at renewal time each year (January 1) or when you have a family status change.  Changes in coverage due to a family status change must be done within 30 days of the qualifying event.  The City is currently insured by AETNA US HEALTH CARE.  Their member services phone number is 877-238-6200.  You can access their web site at AETNA US Health care.

  

LIFE INSURANCE 

Full-time permanent employees are eligible for life insurance coverage on the first day of the month following full-time permanent employment.  This benefit is available with or without dependent life coverage and in either case is provided at no cost to the employee.  Current life insurance benefit amounts are $25,000 for the employee, $2,500 for the employee’s spouse and $1,500 for the employee’s dependent child(ren).

 

 

COLONIAL LIFE AND ACCIDENT INSURANCE

Colonial offers a wide variety of additional insurance policies available to employees through payroll deduction.  These include: Cancer Insurance, Accident Insurance, Short Term Disability Insurance, Critical Illness Insurance, Hospital Confinement Insurance and additional Life Insurance.  Your premiums can be deducted on a pre-tax/after-tax basis.  Colonial Insurance may be reached on the internet at:  www.coloniallife.com or by phone at 800-325-4368.

 

WORKERS’ COMPENSATION INSURANCE

 

The City of Lake Worth provides Workers’ Compensation Insurance for all employees and designated volunteers through the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool as required by applicable state law.

 

VACATION DAYS

 

The City provides 80 hours of vacation per year for the first 4 years of employment.  Employees with 5 to 14 years of service earn 120 hours per year, and those with 15 years and beyond earn 160 hours.  An employee is eligible to take vacation days after the first full year of employment.  Shift employees of the Fire Department earn an equivalency to the 40 hours of vacation earned.

 

SICK LEAVE

 

City of Lake Worth employees earn 8 hours a month of sick leave with a maximum accrual of 160 hours.  Employees are eligible to take sick leave after 6 months of employment.  Shift employees of the Fire Department earn an equivalency to the 8 hours of sick earned each month..

 

HOLIDAYS

 

The City observes the following Holidays:

              New Years Day

              Memorial Day

              Independence Day

              Labor Day

              Thanksgiving Day

              Day after Thanksgiving Day

              Christmas Eve

              Christmas Day

              Plus one additional holiday set by Council each year.

 

TMRS (Texas Municipal Retirement System)

Full-time permanent employees are eligible to participate in TMRS effective on their first day of full-time permanent employment.  Employee deposits are equal to 6% of gross wages.  The City matches employee deposits at the rate of 2 to 1.  Employees are vested after 5 years of employment.  TMRS can be reached at (800)924-8677 or on the internet at TMRS Online.

 

457 PLAN

This is a deferred compensation plan available through payroll deduction.   Any deposits into your 457 plan are not subject o federal withholding, but are subject to Social Security and Medicare.  The City does not match funds for employee 457 plans.  The 457 Plan is administered by Nationwide Retirement Solutions and is available online at: Nationwide Retirement Solutions or via the telephone at: 888-867-5175

 

SAVINGS BONDS

The purchase of Savings Bond is available through payroll deduction for all employees who are interested.

 

 SOCIAL SECURITY/MEDICARE

All employees of the City are covered by Social Security effective on their first day of employment.  Deductions are made from each payroll check for this benefit.  Social Security (OASDI) is deducted at a rate of 6.2% and Medicare at a rate of 1.45% of gross wages.  The City matches employee contributions into Social Security at a rate of 1 to 1.

 

UNEMPLOYMENT

All employees of the City are covered under the Texas Unemployment Compensation Insurance Program effective on their date of employment.

 

LONGEVITY PAY

Full-time permanent employees are eligible for longevity pay when they have been employed by the City for 5 years as of September 30 of each year.  Longevity is paid at the rate of $5.00 per month for each month of employment through September 30 of the year.  Longevity is paid annually during the first quarter the fiscal year.

  

CERTIFICATION PAY

The City provides Certification Pay to non-exempt employees for those who have achieved certain certificates above and beyond what is required to perform their individual job functions.  Contact the Human Resources Office for a complete list of Certification Pay requirements.

 

UNIFORM/CLOTHING ALLOWANCE

 Depending on the job function, the City may provide you with a uniform or a clothing allowance to offset the cost of clothing for a particular function.
