ZONING DISTRICT CLASSIFICATIONS

The City promotes orderly growth and development while protecting existing uses, by grouping together compatible development, this is referred to as zoning.

The purpose in zoning land is to promote the health, safety, and general welfare of the public.  The zoning regulations and districts established have been designed to:

·         to reduce congestion on streets;

·         to secure safety from fire, panic and other dangers;

·         to promote health and general welfare;

·         to provide adequate light and air;

·         to prevent the overcrowding of land;

·         to avoid undue concentration of population;

·         to facilitate the adequate provision of transportation,      water, sewers, schools, parks, and other public requirements;

·         to conserve the value of property and encourage the most appropriate use of land throughout the community.

The City of Lake Worth currently has nine (9) zoning classifications:

  • SF-1 – Single Family Residential
  • MD – Moderate Density
  • MH – Manufactured Housing
  • C – Commercial
  • I – Industrial
  • P-MF – Planned Multi-Family
  • P-C – Planned Commercial
  • P-I – Planned Industrial
  • M-PD – Mixed-Planned Development

If you are looking for a specific zoning classification or the zoning classification of a particular property, you may locate it on the City’s Zoning Map and verify it with the Planning & Zoning Department Detailed information for each zoning classification can be found in the City’s Chapter 14 Zoning Ordinance.

The “Zoning” as defined by Tarrant Appraisal District is not the same as the City’s land use zoning.  The appraisal district’s zoning corresponds to their land use valuation system and has nothing to do with the City of Lake Worth zoning districts.
