Dismissals
Some tickets may be able to be dismissed by the Court without appearing at your Court date. The following can be dismissed with certain documentation:
- Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility (No Insurance)
- Expired Driver's License
- Expired Vehicle Inspection Sticker
- Failure to Change Address / Name on Driver's License within 30 days
- Failure to Display Driver's License
- No License Plates or Operate Vehicle without Two License Plates
- Display Wrong, Fictitious, Altered, Obscured License Plates
- Defective Equipment
- Driver's License Endorsement / Restriction
Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility (No Insurance)
A citation for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility may be dismissed at no charge if the Defendant provides the Court with proof of coverage for the date and time of the violation on the vehicle or defendant. The coverage must be verified with the insurance company before dismissal is granted. The defendant must also possess a valid driver's license. Proof must be brought to the court or mailed. No faxed copies will be accepted.
Expired Driver's License / Expired License Plate Registration / Expired Vehicle Inspection Sticker / Failure to Change Address on Driver's License
A citation for Expired Driver's License, Expired License Plate Registration, or Expired Inspection Sticker, and Failure to Change Address on Driver's License may be dismissed for a $20.00 Administration Fee if the Defendant complies with the following requirements:
- The violation has been corrected within 20 business days of the citation date. (You must appear in the office to receive the additional 10 business days);
- The Defendant provides the Court with Court with proof of this correction by the appearance date (or extension date if you received the compliance extension); and
- The Defendant pays the $20.00 Administration Fee for dismissal.
If the correction is made after 20 business days the full price of the citation will be due or a court date can be scheduled to discuss your case with the Judge.
Failure to Display Driver's License
A citation for Failure to Display Driver's License may be dismissed for a $10.00 Administration Fee if the Defendant complies with the following requirements:
- The Defendant provides a physical copy of their driver's license, valid on the date of the offense; and
- The Defendant pay the $10.00 Administration Fee for dismissal.
No License Plate or Operate Vehicle without Two License Plates
A citation for No License Plate or Operate Vehicle without Two License Plates may be dismissed for a $10.00 Administration Fee if the Defendant complies with the following requirements:
- The Defendant corrects the offense by their appearance date;
- Provides the court a copy of the registration receipt from the county showing the registration was current on the date of the offense;
- Signs an Affidavit stating the license plates are currently on the vehicle by the appearance date; and
- The Defendant pays the $10.00 Administration Fee for dismissal.
Display Wrong, Fictitious, Altered, Obscured License Plates
A citation for Displaying Wrong, Fictitious, Altered, or Obscured License Plate may be dismissed for a $10.00 Administration Fee if the Defendant complies with the following requirements:
- The Defendant corrects the offense by their appearance date;
- Wrong / Fictitious - Provide the court a copy of the registration receipt from the county showing the correct License Plate registration for the vehicle and sign an Affidavit stating the plates have been obtained and are currently on the vehicle;
- Altered / Obscured - Sign an Affidavit stating the offense has been corrected;
- The Defendant pays the $10.00 Administration Fee for dismissal.
Defective Equipment
A citation for Defective Equipment may be dismissed for a $10.00 Administration Fee if the Defendant complies with the following requirements:
- The Defendant was not driving a commercial vehicle;
- The Defendant corrects the offense by their appearance date;
- The Defendant provides the court with proof of the defective equipment corrected (i.e. receipt of purchase of items - bulbs, windshield wipers, receipt from an auto repair shop.
- The Defendant signs an Affidavit stating that the offense has been corrected;
- The Defendant pays the $10.00 Administration Fee for dismissal.
Driver's License Endorsement / Restriction
A citation for Driver's License Endorsement / Restriction may be dismissed for a $10.00 Administration Fee if the Defendant complies with the following requirements:
- The endorsement was for a physical condition that was surgically / medically corrected before the date of offense or is on the Driver's License in error;
- The Defendant has DPS correct their Driver's License by their appearance date and provides proof of corrected Driver's License to the court by their appearance date;
- The Defendant pays the $10.00 Administration Fee for dismissal.
