The City of Lake Worth is excited to announce our partnership with Roll Call and the Texas Veterans Commission to plan a community event celebrating Women Veterans Day. Most people have no idea there is such a day!
On June 9, 2017 Senate Bill 805 was passed by the Texas Legislature designating June 12th as Women Veterans Day. The significance of the date lies with the fact that on June 12, 1948 President Harry Truman signed in to law the Women's Armed Service Integration Act that made women permanent, regular members of the US Armed Forces. This allowed women to receive benefits such as the GI Bill, disability, etc.
Please come out and show your support for Roll Call and female veterans and take part in the special ceremony to begin at 11:00 a.m..! A flyer is attached with more details about the event. There will be great food, music, and fun for the entire family.
