Community ~ Citizens Fire Academy

The Lake Worth Fire Department hosts its annual Citizens Fire Academy during the month of April. Potential candidates for the Citizens Fire Academy must meet the following criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older 
  • Live or work within the city limits of Lake Worth or Lakeside
  • No criminal history

Overview of the Citizens Fire Academy

Designed for adults to learn more about how the fire department is organized and operates, the Citizens Fire Academy is open to persons who meet the minicitizens academy 2023mum requirements. The CFA will meet throughout portions of April and May, more specific times/dates are posted in January of each year.  

Additional practical exercises may be available, depending on group interest and availability. Each night, CFA participants learn about different aspects of the fire department, ranging from emergency medical services to special rescue operations. 

Class Day and Times: Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. (classes last between one and three hours, depending on the topics discussed). There will also be one Saturday class scheduled for an opportunity to fight a LIVE fire at a training facility. Attendance is critical (the information learned at the CFA will be utilized during the live-fire demonstrations.)
