Elections

2024 General Election:
The City of Lake Worth has cancelled the May 4, 2024 General Election due to unopposed candidates for the offices of City Council Members for Places 1, 3, 5, and 7.

The unopposed candidates that have been certified as being elected to office are as follows:

Jim Smith

Place 3
Sue Wenger

Place 5
Sherrie Kubala Watkins

Place 7
Jerry Cox

City Elections:
The City Secretary serves as the Chief Election Official for the City of Lake Worth and is responsible for conducting all City elections as prescribed by the Election Code of the State of Texas. Municipal elections are held on the first Saturday in May of each year, as authorized by state law.

The Lake Worth City Council is composed of a Mayor and seven Council members. While there are seven Council places, they are not divided into geographic districts. Each Council member is elected at-large and represents the entire community. The Mayor and Council Members in Places 2, 4 and 6 are elected in odd-numbered years. Council Members in Places 1, 3, 5 and 7 are elected in even-numbered years.

Future Elections:
Mayor and Council Places 2, 4 and 6 will be elected on May 3, 2025 (first Saturday in May).  The filing period will begin on January 15, 2025 and end on February 14, 2025 to file applications for a place on the ballot.
  • Mayor and Council Places 2, 4 and 6 are elected in odd-numbered years on the first Saturday in May.
  • Council Places 1, 3, 5 and 7 are elected in even-numbered years on the first Saturday in May.

Qualifications:
A candidate shall meet the following qualifications: (1) Be a registered voter of the City; (2) Have resided in the City for at least twelve (12) months preceding the election at which they are candidates; (3) Continue residency in the City during the term of office; (4) Not hold more than one public elective office; (5) Not hold an appointed office of the City excluding boards, committees, and commissions; (6) Be at least 21 years of age; (7) Not have been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court; and (8) Not have been convicted, whether final for appeal purposes or not, of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities.
