Health Insurance

Full-time permanent employees are eligible for health insurance coverage on the first of the month following 30 days of employment. Employee coverage is provided at no cost to the employee. Dependent coverage is available and is partially supplemented by the city; the balance must be paid by the employee. Payment for dependent coverage is done through payroll deduction and may be done on a pre-tax basis.

Dental Insurance

Full-time permanent employees are eligible for dental insurance coverage on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment. Employee coverage is provided at no cost to the employee. Vision Insurance

Full-time permanent employees are eligible for vision insurance coverage on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment. Employee coverage is provided at no cost to the employee. Dependent coverage is available; the balance must be paid by the employee. Payment for dependent coverage is done through payroll deduction and may be done on a pre-tax basis.

Life Insurance 

Full-time permanent employees are provided with life insurance coverage on the first day of the month following the first day of employment. This benefit is available with or without dependent coverage and is provided at no cost to the employee.

AFLAC Supplemental Insurance

AFLAC supplemental policies are available to City employees through payroll deduction. For more information visit the AFLAC website.

New Benefits

New Benefits provides the eligible employee and their family members valuable benefits like, 24/7 access to family doctors through Telehealth, an employee advocacy program that will assist with claim reconciliation and finding the best value for services, online doctors and prescription drug discounts.

Workers' Compensation Insurance

The City of Lake Worth provides Workers’ Compensation Insurance for all employees and designated volunteers through the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool effective on the first day of employment.

Unemployment Insurance

All City of Lake Worth employees are covered under the Texas Unemployment Compensation Insurance Program effective on the first day of employment.

Social Security & Medicare

All employees of the City are covered by Social Security effective on their first day of employment. Deductions are made from each payroll check for this benefit. Social Security (OASDI) is deducted at a rate of 6.2% and Medicare at a rate of 1.45% of gross wages. The City of Lake Worth matches employee contributions into Social Security at a rate of 1 to 1.

TMRS (Texas Municipal Retirement System)

Full-time permanent employees begin participation in TMRS effective on their first day of employment. Mandatory employee deposits are equal to 7% of gross wages. The City matches employee deposits at a rate of 2 to 1. Employees are vested at 100% after 5 years of participation. For more information go to TMRS or call 1-800-924-8677.

457 Optional Retirement Plan

A deferred compensation plan is available from Nationwide through payroll deduction. Deposits into a 457 plan are not subject to federal withholding but are subject to Social Security and Medicare taxes. The City does not match funds for 457 retirement plans. For more information click here.

Vacation Days

Full-time permanent employees earn 80 hours of vacation per year up to the first 5 years; 120 hours per year up to 10 years; and 160 hours per year for 10+ years. Firefighter shift employees earn 180 hours per year for the first 10 years and 240 hours per year for 10+ years. Public Safety Officer Employees earn 120 hours per year for the first 10 years and 160 hours per year for 10 + years. Employees are eligible to use vacation days after 6 (six) months of employment.

Sick Leave

Full-time permanent employees accrue 6 hours of sick leave per month with a maximum accrual of 480 hours. Full-time firefighter shift personnel accrue 9 hours per month with a maximum accrual of 720 hours. Eligibility to use sick leave begins upon accrual.

Uniform/Clothing Allowance

Depending on the job function, the City of Lake Worth may provide the employee with uniforms, equipment, and/or protective garments, or a clothing allowance to offset the cost of clothing for a particular function.

Longevity Pay

Full-time permanent employees are eligible for longevity pay once they have been employed by the City of Lake Worth for a total of 3 years as of September 30th. Longevity is paid at the rate of $7.00 per month of employment. Longevity is paid annually in a lump sum during the first quarter of the fiscal year.

Certification Pay

The City of Lake Worth provides Certification Pay to non-exempt employees for those who have achieved certain certificates above and beyond what is required to perform their individual job functions. Contact the Human Resources Department for more information.

Pay Periods

The City of Lake Worth employees are paid bi-weekly (26 times per year). If a scheduled payday falls on a holiday, paychecks will be issued the day preceding the holiday.
