Zoning District Classifications

The city promotes orderly growth and land use while protecting existing property owners by grouping together compatible development — a practice known as zoning.

Before land is developed in the city, it must be zoned and platted. The Planning & Zoning Commission reviews all zoning requests and City Council approves or denies the request after receiving recommendations.

The purpose of zoning regulations and districts is to promote the health, safety, morals and general welfare of the City and they been designed to:

  • lessen the congestion in the streets;
  • to secure safety from fire, panic and other dangers;
  • to insure adequate light and air;
  • to prevent the overcrowding of land;
  • to avoid undue concentration of population;
  • to facilitate the adequate provision of transportation, water, sewerage, schools, parks and other public requirements

Note: *The “Zoning” as defined by Tarrant Appraisal District is not the same as the City’s land use zoning.  The appraisal district’s zoning corresponds to their land use valuation system and has nothing to do with the City of Lake Worth zoning districts.
